Here at the Emporium we talk a lot about loving what you wear and making sure the fit is just right. But there’s work you can do at home to prepare for your present and future self…and that’s Self-Care. As much as I wanted to have a men’s clothing shop, just as important was a Men’s Grooming section or as we historically call it, The Apothecary.
Taking care of your skin, hair, nails and teeth are what sets you apart as a Gentleman and will only help matching up with that special someone or getting that coveted job. Plus…you’ll make your Mom and Grandma proud.
I was lucky to be taught great hygiene but didn’t learn about the details till college. I remember visiting a friend of mine at WVU and getting ready in his bathroom shocked by all of the products he and his boyfriend used. He asked what I use…”uhhh, acne soap”, there was a pause and then he responded with, “oh Travis…you have a lot to learn”.
I started with a better face wash and a face scrub. Mind you, I was still in college so I didn’t have a lot of money but could find good products till I could afford better ones.
By my mid-20’s I started a morning regime that I’ve stuck with:

Please Understand…as a Man, it’s ok to ask for help. The entire basis of opening SAMSON is to allow guys a comfortable place to chill out, shop for clothing and ask questions about grooming and barware. I’m sitting here hoping that you ask questions. So, if you ask, I’ll tell you that shirt is too big for you or that you should match your belt with your shoes. That’s no different for grooming. If you’re unsure about a product or what it’s for…just ask. If your knowledge of hygiene is washing your hair and body with the same product…we can build off of that and start slow.
